Backpack travelling is an exciting way to explore the outdoors. By visiting nature only with your bare essentials, you’ll be able to appreciate the simple life and the wonders of Mother Nature.
Backpacking essentials
If you’re not sure if you need something, it’s most likely you won’t need it during the trip. Only pack your basic needs and the emergency essentials. For instance, don’t bring an extra heavy flashlight but bring a second set of batteries. You can make your backpack lighter by bringing primarily dehydrated meals and bringing calorie dense food. Make sure you have enough to supply you salt, carbohydrates, and protein.
Safety gear for backpacking
A first aid kit will ensure your safety during the trip. Pack all essentials that can remedy any kind of injury, especially those that are commonly encountered during hiking. Have enough water and food, and pack a stash for emergency purposes.
Travel documents for a backpack trip
Always have a copy of your airplane tickets, passport, Eurail pass, and credit card numbers. Give a copy of these to a friend or family member at home. Should something happen to you or your documents during the trip, at least their copies are still safe with someone you trust.

Excited on your hiking? If this is your first time to hike, you probably have prepared your things in your backpack. But, did you include your First Aid Kit? This is certainly needed in your outdoor activity. Usually, hiking organizers request the hiking team to bring their complete equipment, including the first-aid kit. Even if you will go in groups, it's proper that you bring it. You can't tell when accident will strike, and it is your responsibility to keep yourself safe. Insect bites, snake bites, bruises, and punctures are common hazards in outdoor activities. There's so much fun in hiking. You can see beautiful views, meet new friends, learn a lot, and bond with nature before reaching your destination. One of the most important things to do in hiking is preparing your things. Listing down your hiking equipment and clothing is the best way to organize your things. In your backpack, you should not miss to include your map. It's strongly recommended to bring a map. If hiking or traveling is your job or your hobby, you can use your PDA with GPS for your guide.
I assume that you know how to read a map. So before you proceed to your journey, familiarize yourself with the surrounding cities, roads, and the exact location of your destination using your map. This will help you not to get lost on your journey. Even if your team leader has a map, it's still good for you to have your own copy. There are several camping and hiking stores around. You can also buy a map on the web. One of particular online store is the Emapstore.com. They have several maps of different cities and locations.

Only now have I realized just how important tents and sleeping bags are in hiking. A month ago, I decided to join a family camping where I volunteered to arrange on the necessary tents. Lately, I found out that I did not prepare carefully. It was not that someone was left to sleep outside the tent, but that the tents themselves were not reliable enough. Thank God, there were no wild beasts in the camp site and the skies provided us fair weather, so all of us went home safely.
The next day, I tried to search the Internet for safe and dependable tents and sleeping bags that are made from strong materials. I landed at www.outdoorgear.co.uk, and there came lots of choices, packages of tents perfect for family outings. I admit, I spent a little with the previous tents, so I got the weak ones. But now that I already found an online tent shop, I will have all the time to prepare. Besides, tents should serve as the family house, while sleeping bags as the beds out from home. I learned from my mistake, so next time, I can confidently bring tents that will keep my family safe for our camping or simple get together at the beautiful Hyde Park.

I remember the time when I received my first hiking equipment from my brother; it's a compass. My brother insisted to teach me the compass reading because he believed that one day, I need to use one. And he was correct because I never get lost in our hiking activities with my reliable compass.
When I joined in the mountain hiking in Florida, I easily knew the direction because of my Silva Ranger 515CL Compass. Silva compass is one of the finest compasses exist. It's easy to read, very handy to carry, not complicated to use, and most of all, I'm used to it. It has a plastic baseplate that you can clearly see the map scales and measurements. The baseplate has a plastic cover to protect the compass from any damage. And when you open it, you will see a small mirror that serves as a signaling tool.
Silva Ranger 515CL is almost similar with 515CLQ compass. Although now that we have GPS handheld device, I am still confident to utilize a compass. I believe that it still has a lot of advantages.

Hiking is among the most relaxing outdoor activities. If you are tired with the everyday noise in your surroundings, this is the perfect escape. Most hikers usually go to the forest and mountains and stay there for several days enjoying the freshness of air, songs of the birds, and crashing of leaves. They just listen to nature's music.
There are several hiking items you need to bring when you go into a hike. First, a small pack which is spacious enough to contain your clothings. Pick a bag that has pockets and fits you. Second, remember to carry enough water. You must have a sufficient amount of water to maintain your strength. But remember that softdrinks or sodas could not substitute water. They may even cause dehydration. You also need to carry with you a map as well as a compass. Put them in a plastic to keep them dry and place them in your bag. Another item you need to bring is a flashlight. This would be necessary in case you get lost at night. You must also carry your first aid kit, pocket knife, whistle, mirror, lighter, and food.

Ever see those adventure movies where the hero sets off on a long and harsh journey? Did you ever notice that whenever he is shown to be traveling he has a long stick, that he probably picked somewhere in the forest, while trekking the mountains or while battling through the desert heat? That’s not just for show, those sticks do serve a purpose and it’s not for plot enhancement. Believe it or not the elderly aren’t the only ones who need a walking stick, if you’re on a hiking trip; you better bring one with you as well.
Walking or hiking sticks give you the much needed stability while trekking though a hiking trail. These can also give you leverage as you move your way up the hill. You may also use this stick in the same manner as a blind person does, to get a feel of his surroundings. You don’t want to step in an unstable piece of land, or worse, a snake along the way. So the next time you’re on a weekend hike, bring a stick with you. Make sure they fit your hands comfortably and that they can be easily set aside when not used.

Hiking requires many things; the proper apparel, hiking equipment, and many more. If you're hiking overnight or many nights even, you should have camping cookware. Why? You cannot roast marshmallows forever, you have got to eat real food! You have to eat something for you to be able to continue your hiking journey. Lights and lanterns are also very important, need I ask why?
Night time in the woods is really night time; bears, visuals, you get the point. First aid safety kit is also a must. You'll never know, you might get little cuts and bruises every now and then. Also, the equipment every hiker should carry with them is water filtration. You don't have to bring with you heavy gallons of water once you have your own water filtration, that way your backpack would be much lighter!

If you're hiking to experience the wildlife, then it's best that you have the best quality camping tents. Camping tents are very useful, most especially if the weather isn't so friendly and if you plan on spending the night out in the woods.
Tents are also protection for your other hiking equipments. Your camera for example and for yourself, most especially! Hiking faces a lot of danger such as bears and the weather so having a tent with you is the smartest way to be safe.
