Hikers get an unexplainable euphoria when they climb or trek the fields or up the mountain. This feeling I could share with a few of my hiking buddies but not my tear-jerking stories. We often escape the hustle and bustle of the city through camping and hiking trips every month. But soon, as family and work got wound up, fun is over.
I never thought I could still experience the excitement until I got hold of the National Geographic Adventure Magazine. Reading it made me relive my good old days. I am even more fascinated by a story of a woman whose vacation just turned to one hell of an
exciting outdoor adventure. It was in New Zealand where she found the calling of nature, that is, of Mount Tonggariro. Apparently, the volcanic view there is breathtaking. More so, a myth echoes in its grandeur.
According to the lore, a man went on a journey atop Tonggariro. Unfortunately, the trail proved to be challenging. He was near-death, his body stiffly freezing from the cold when he conjured for warmth and alas! Nature has spoken. Flames bursted and the man survived. Years after, it became New Zealand's
national park.
Ah! Who wouldn't want to unravel mysteries of nature?! I hope some day, I could visit New Zealand and share the same fascination. But for now, I'll satisfy myself feeding on somebody else's challenging feat.
